This summer Eric Newlin is joining our studio to teach three piano workshops: Piano Improvisation, Creative Composition, and Learning to Play by Ear.
Workshops like these will enhance student creativity and music-making confidence in piano lessons. They are especially good for students who want to try an additional approach to learning piano, need an extra challenge, or need help taking the next step musically. With these skills, kids will be able to play favorite tunes by ear, understand harmony, jam with a friend, and understand music more intuitively.
Enrollment is still open for our Creative Composition workshop. Continue reading
This year a record number of over 250 students participated in OMTA’s Solo Festival at Bell Cultural Events Center. Entries included piano, voice, harp, orchestra and band instrumentalists. I am proud of my students who participated! Many received superior ratings on their performances and theory quizzes, and a few even had perfect scores!
Festivals like this one are a wonderful way for students to recognize their potential and be acknowledged for their hard work and practice. Students will receive their medals and ribbons at our Spring Piano Recital on April 3rd.

Each year, teachers attend a variety of professional development sessions that refresh their teaching strategies and students get to work with clinicians before giving honors performances. I had the exciting opportunity to attend two workshops with acclaimed composer, pianist, speaker and teacher Wendy Stevens during the conference. Continue reading
I had the honor of attending a piano recital given by former Olathe resident, Zach Polson, last Sunday at Redeemer Presbyterian Church. The recital was put on by the Olathe Music Teachers Association and was geared towards young audiences in piano lessons. All of my students were invited to attend this special event.
